Meet the students from California Poetry Out Loud The 20 California students are preparing for Poetry Out Loud, the competition high-school competition that doesn't involve athletics but words. It's the state finals, and the day's champion will be California's Poetry Out Loud representative in Washington, DC in April 2008. They will face off--or "speak off," as the case may be--at the Secretary of State's auditorium in downtown Sacramento on Friday, March 14. Second Year for a Successful Statewide Arts Conference from the California Arts Council The floor of the expansive Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento was almost completely full at the California Arts Council's statewide conference. The event included words from a futurist, a policy analyst, an arts education expert, table discussions and plans of action ... and a visit from Governor Schwarzenegger. (Photos available!) Don't Lose Nonprofit Status: New Tax Requirements for Small Nonprofits Starting in 2008 for annual year 2007, all nonprofits have to file some kind of documentation with the federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Nonprofit organizations that do not file Form 990 (or the simplified versions of this form) for three consecutive years may lose their 501(c) status. This includes the small organizations that have less than $25,000 in their coffers. Got Photos?
