Arts included in Economic Stimulus Proposal in Congress--Measure Passes House The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies recently released a notice that the House of Representatives passed the House Democratic leadership's economic stimulus package, including arts funding. This notice came after an alert the previous week. "The proposal includes a $50 million allocation for the National Endowment for the Arts, with the stipulation that 40 percent of such funding be distributed through state and regional arts agencies, the balance to go out in direct grants from the NEA," notes the organization's press statement from January 15, 2009. "The proposal further stipulates that all funds must be awarded by September 30, 2010 using existing grant-making procedures." See the full statement from mid-January for more details, or the most recent NASAA release as posted by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and a statement from Americans for the Arts.
