California Arts Council

State of California

WEBSITE MAINTENANCE NOTICE: On Monday, Nov. 2, the California Arts Council is transitioning to a new web design. During the changeover, www.arts.ca.gov may be temporarily unavailable. We appreciate your patience as we work to launch our new site.

Elected Officials

The Arts Council encourages artists and arts organizations to connect with their state and local elected officials, as well as encourages elected officials to connect with their local arts communities. Through various events, including public hearings and arts program activities, elected officials can connect with the artists, educators, and arts organizations who make their community a wonderful place to live and to work.

The California Arts Council serves all 58 counties in California through grants and sertives, providing a positive impact for children, communities, and underserved populations across our state. Meet your local grantees through our grantee map.

Looking to connect with your local arts community? Want to know more about how the arts benefit our state? Contact our Director of Legislative Affairs, Kristin Margolis, at kristin.margolis@arts.ca.gov.

Every year, we present the Poetry Out Loud State Championship in the Senate Chambers at the Capitol. High school county champions from across the state gather to share the art of poetry and compete for a spot in the National Poetry Out Loud Finals in Washington, D.C. View a photo album of the 2014 County Champions with their local state representatives at this link.

The Joint Committee on the Arts was formed to oversee legislative issues regarding the arts and other creativity-driven industries throughout the state. Among its missions, the Joint Committee on the Arts is authorized and directed to study, investigate, and analyze the following: legislative matters pertaining to the arts and their goals; arts legislation in other states and on the federal level; the present status of arts education in California; and the economic impact of the arts in California.
